The IIHF would like to provide an update on the Covid-19 testing results at the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship.
Since team arrival into the bubble on 10 August, 3,322 Covid-19 PCR tests have been administered in Calgary with the last round of testing on Monday, and all players, team staff, game officials and IIHF staff staying in the exclusive event hotels have been tested negative.
Prior to travel the teams, game officials and IIHF staff went through a seven-day team or home quarantine in their countries with three PCR tests between 3-9 August. A total of 1,692 tests were conducted during that period that were all negative. After landing in Calgary with charter planes all participants were in a five-day self-isolation period in the event hotels followed by a short team quarantine period until the pre-competition games on 18 August.
With the results from the last round of tests the teams will be able to travel back to their home countries tomorrow with dedicated charter flights and will continue to follow the safety protocols until their arrival. The 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship runs from 20-31 August 2021 at WinSport Arena at Canada Olympic Park with the the two medal games and fifth-place game scheduled for the last day.
