Finland will get a new head coach for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship. The Finnish Ice Hockey Association signed a two-year contract with Tomi Lamsa as head coach of the Finnish U20 national team until spring 2024.

Lamsa was coaching in Finland’s top league before being hired by KHL club Salavat Yulayev Ufa where he was the head coach for the past two seasons. He replaces Kari Jalonen, who was originally announced as head coach for the upcoming season but has become the head coach of the Czech men’s national team instead.

Antti Pennanen will remain head coach of the current U20 national team that will compete in August at the postponed 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship.
