Preparations for the IIHF World Championship Germany 2027™ are entering the next phase: around 1,500 volunteers are being recruited for the tournament. Registration opens on September 2, 2026.
Registration will initially open for the two Host Cities, Düsseldorf and Mannheim. Interested applicants can register via the volunteer section on the official IIHF World Championship 2027 website. The registration process for the opening game in Gelsenkirchen will be launched at a later stage.
Volunteers are an essential part of the IIHF World Championship 2027. Through their dedication across a wide range of areas, they help ensure that teams, fans, media representatives, partners, and guests from around the globe feel welcome—bringing the Festival of Friendship to life beyond the ice.

Diverse Areas of Activity
For the IIHF World Championship 2027, volunteers are sought across nine functional areas:
In the Heart of the Action
To join the volunteer team, applicants must be at least 18 years old as of May 1, 2027, and available for a minimum of seven operational days. A valid email address and a smartphone are also required. Fluency in German is required, and knowledge of English is an asset or even required for certain roles. Prior experience in sports or event management is welcomed, though not mandatory.
Volunteering offers a unique opportunity to experience the IIHF World Championship 2027 from a behind-the-scenes perspective, work within an international team, and connect with sports enthusiasts from all over the world.
In addition to official volunteer apparel and daily catering, all volunteers will receive a personalized certificate of participation. Above all, the program offers the chance to experience the IIHF World Championship from an exclusive vantage point, become part of an international community, and meet people from across the globe.
