Former Soviet national team forward Alexander Gerasimov passed away on Thursday in Moscow it was announced by his long-time club CSKA Moscow.
Gerasimov played for his hometown team Dizelist Penza in the second Soviet league before moving to famed CSKA Moscow where he won seven national championships.
He caught the eyes of the army team when he represented the Soviet Union at the international stage winning two World Juniors gold medals in 1978 and 1979.
With the men’s national team he won Olympic gold in Sarajevo 1984.
After ending his career as a player in 1988 he continued to work for the CSKA Moscow hockey school.
