Australia won’t participate in any events of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship program in the 2021/2022 season due to Covid-related reasons.

After having previously withdrawn the teams for tournaments scheduled until early March, Ice Hockey Australia has also withdrawn its men’s senior and U18 national teams.

The 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group A in Zagreb, Croatia, will be played with five teams: the Netherlands, Croatia, Spain, China and Israel in late April.

The 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group B in Sofia, Bulgaria, will now also be played with five teams: Spain, China, the Netherlands, Croatia and Bulgaria. New game schedules will be established soon.

Ice Hockey Australia already earlier had to withdraw national teams in other categories for Covid-19 related issues including the wellbeing of their players due to the Covid-19 situation in the world, travel restrictions in Australia, quarantine requirements and the ability to ice a team under these circumstances and risks.

Ice Hockey Australia hopes to be back in international competitions soon once the pandemic conditions and restrictions ease.
