Now in its third year, the International Ice Hockey Federation’s Integrity Program continues its commitment to fostering and providing safe, ethical, and inclusive environments in hockey. The IIHF has been proactive in expanding resources that promote integrity, including structures and rules, training and workshops, and the integration of Member National Association Integrity Officers.
The Integrity Program aims to protect everyone from abuse and harassment, competition manipulation, doping and ethical violations in the sport.
The IIHF’s Integrity Pillars include:
Understanding the principles of integrity is key for fans, players, coaches, staff and everyone involved in hockey to feel empowered to stand up and set an example.
To learn more, visit the IIHF Integrity Hub, where you can find more information about each pillar, the IIHF Integrity Code, rules, and programs.
By putting integrity at the forefront, the IIHF, along with Member National Associations (MNAs) around the world, is ensuring the sport can grow in a positive way, based on ethics, safety and inclusivity. Since launching in 2022, the IIHF’s Integrity Program has grown to include a Safeguarding Representative and Event Safeguarding Officer at all tournaments. The IIHF is making every effort to ensure all MNAs have a dedicated Integrity Officer.
Together, we are ensuring a collaborative and global approach to safeguarding players, officials, team staff and the sport as a whole.
For this year’s IIHF Integrity Awareness Raising Week (9-13 December), we are harnessing the power of WE and challenging players, staff, officials and anyone involved in the game to RISE and join the movement: #TogetherForIntegrity.
The IIHF is here for you. We actively encourage federations, tournament organizing committees, clubs, leagues and anyone involved in hockey to learn more about how they can ensure a safe and respectful space. To support better communication around integrity issues or reporting, the IIHF has partnered with RealResponse to create confidential avenues for disclosure. Through its anonymous two-way communication tool (via WhatsApp), you can get real answers to the questions and issues you’re facing. This tool is for everyone. Learn more about how you can report or speak to someone at the IIHF here.
We’re all in this together, and by working together, we can strengthen integrity in ice hockey. Engage with our content on Facebook, X, TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIN by using the hashtag #TogetherForIntegrity.
The Integrity Program aims to protect everyone from abuse and harassment, competition manipulation, doping and ethical violations in the sport.
The IIHF’s Integrity Pillars include:
- Anti-doping: Keeping hockey clean from doping violations. If there are doping violations, it not only hurts the player, but also damages the integrity, image, fairness and value of sport. If you take banned substances, you not only cheat yourself, your team and your fans. You betray the sport you love and dedicated so much of your life to.
- Competition Manipulation: Protecting the exciting and unpredictable outcome of games. It occurs when anyone involved in ice hockey (players, staff, game officials, etc.) cheats in order to remove the unpredictability of an outcome (game). Competition Manipulation can come in different forms, including betting, match-fixing, or sharing insider information.
- Abuse and Harassment: Protecting the ice hockey community from different forms of harm, including but not limited to psychological abuse, physical abuse, racism, discrimination, sexual misconduct and neglect. There is a zero-tolerance approach to abuse and harassment.
- Ethics: Encouraging ethical conduct in ice hockey by discouraging ethical misconduct. The principles of dignity, integrity, loyalty and responsibility should be upheld in relations of a competitive, economic, social (including social media) and moral nature. An ethical conduct violation can also be an existing or not-declared conflict of interest situation.
Understanding the principles of integrity is key for fans, players, coaches, staff and everyone involved in hockey to feel empowered to stand up and set an example.
