The 6th cycle birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the countries’ friendship were jointly celebrated with an exhibition game between the women’s senior national teams from Thailand and China. It was the first such game ever played between the two countries.
A packed arena in Bangkok witnessed a 6-6 tie in which Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana, the first IIHF Women’s Global Ambassador, played.

Before the game, IIHF President Luc Tardif presented Her Majesty an honourary certificate, pin, and trophy. Also in attendance were the Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China to Thailand, H.E. Han Zhiqiang , Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra of Thailand as well and Sorawong Theinthong, the Sport Minister of Thailand.
Tardif also thanked IOC Member Madame KhunyingPatama for her pivotal role to prepare this historical milestone and herself being part of the friendship game and ceremony.

After the conclusion of the game both His Majesty and Her Majesty of Thailand were presented an official IIHF jersey.
“Her Majesty’s commitment to promoting ice hockey, particularly among women, will inspire athletes from all over the world for generations to come,” Tardif said. He was accompanied by IIHF Vice-President Aivaz Omorkanov and IIHF Sport Development Manager for Asia Harald Springfeld.

The event not only celebrated an historic moment for ice hockey in the region but also served as a celebration of His Majesty’s 72nd birthday, a six-cycle anniversary, and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Meetings with the sport authorities as well as the Chinese Ice Hockey Association and Ice Hockey Association of Thailand also took place, the focus of which were current development and next steps along a fruitful path to increased development of hockey in Asia.
The next significant events in the region are the Asia Championships which will include the participation of China, Japan, Korea, and Kazakhstan in both senior men’s and women’s categories. Additionally, the General Secretary Summit and Youth Hockey Director Program, newly implemented development programs, will take place in an effort to further strengthen the region’s potential.
