AIVAZ OMORKANOV
(KGZ) - COUNCIL MEMBER
Born in 1996 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Aivaz Omorkanov is President of the National Olympic Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic and a Council Member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). In 2021, at the age of 25, he became the youngest Vice-President in the IIHF’s history, holding responsibility for Asia from 2021 to 2026.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in International Economics and Trade from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Law and a master’s degree in International Relations.
During his time as IIHF Vice-President, he worked with national federations and regional partners to strengthen ice hockey across Asia. He helped establish the IIHF Asia Office, launch the men’s and women’s Asia Championship series, and expand development programmes for players, coaches, and sports leaders. His contributions to sport have been recognised through national and international honours, including an award from the President of Kyrgyzstan and the Order of Friendship from the President of Mongolia.
Since 2024, Omorkanov has also been Honorary Consul of Slovenia in Kyrgyzstan. Alongside his work in sport and diplomacy, he is a businessman.
Outside his professional commitments, Omorkanov competes in triathlon. He is a national champion and has completed the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
He speaks Kyrgyz, Russian, English, and Chinese.
